Los Angeles is known for its health-conscious, green juice-slurping, running-around-in-activewear-and-actually-wearing-it-to-work-out residents. So it’s not hard to live the fitness and healthy eating lifestyle in this city. Here’s my version of how to spend a healthy day in DTLA (downtown LA).
6:30am – 8:00am: Zen Meditation
Start your day off early with a different kind of meditation at Buddhist temple Zenshuji. Participate in a Zazen meditation – a sitting meditation that is central to Zen practice. “It is to sit without seeking enlightenment and without rejecting delusion. Zen teachers often encourage their students to ‘just sit,’ letting everything be as-it-is.”
8:30am – 9:30am: Breakfast
Time for a little breakfast at G&B Coffee at Grand Central Market. Get the turmeric/ginger almond macadamia latte either hot or iced – you won’t regret it! They also serve house-made granola with almond/macadamia milk. If you’re hungry I’d suggest going for it.
10:45am – 11:30am: Cycling Class
I bet you’re ready for some sweat now! Head over to Soulcycle on 898 Olive Street, lace up your cycling shoes and go! Make sure to reserve your bike in advance.
12:30pm – 2:00pm: Korean Lunch
By now, you should be getting hungry. So for lunch, I suggest trying out little Korean eatery Eko Eats. They offer some delicious bowls and salads that are both healthy and satisfying. There are also several options for vegan and gluten free folks. Plenty of options for every type of eater – always a win-win in my eyes.
2:00pm – 4:00pm: Grand Park LA
Walk over to Grand Park and stroll through its different areas or just lay down, take a nap or read a book. Time to relax, enjoy the sun and recharge
4:00pm – 5:30pm: Massage/Acupuncture
Evosia Wellness is a Holistic Wellness Center focusing on Chines Medicine. Come here to get acupuncture or get one of the various different massages they offer (e.g., Myofascial Release or Swedish Relaxation, Aroma Therapy).
6:00pm – 8:30pm: Yoga And Dinner
After all this relaxing, it’s time to get moving again with a yoga class at The Springs. After your class, you can stay there and have dinner at their Kitchen & Juice Bar. Choose one of the healthy options on their menu (I’d go for the Macro Bowl) and pair it with kombucha or a glass of organic, sustainable wine.
9:30pm – ???: Drinks
Round out your day with a visit at Prank. Their drink menu features Augmented Ambrosias (non-alcoholic drinks), kombucha and regular cocktails, beer and wine. If you’re still feeling snacky, there’s plenty of veggie and other healthy options on the menu such as charred broccoli or kale salad.
