Housing Works is a New York City based non-profit fighting AIDS and homelessness. Donations help fund their mission to provide lifesaving services to homeless, low-income and marginalized men, women, and youth. Drop off your shoes at one of their Manhattan or Brooklyn thrift store locations during store hours.
Dress For Success (dressforsuccess.org) – women’s business/business casual shoes
Dress for Success is a global nonprofit organization that provides professional attire for low-income women, to help support their job-search and interview process. Drop off new or gently used work-appropriate shoes at one either their Manhattan or Queens location.
Career Gear (careergear.com) – men’s business/business casual shoes
This national nonprofit provides professional clothing, mentoring and life-skills to help men in poverty become stronger contributors to their families and communities. Drop off new or gently used dress or business casual shoesat their Manhattan location at one of their monthly collection dates.
National Odd Shoe Exchange (oddshoe.org) – all types of single or paired shoes (must be new)
National Odd Shoe Exchange is a non-profit organization that is a source of footwear for those requiring single shoes or pairs of differing sizes. Mail your shoes to their Arizona location.

Sell
The Real Real (therealreal.com) – high-end shoes
The RealReal is a consignment website for men’s and women’s luxury goods. Make sure your shoes are from a designer they accept. Then you can schedule a free in-home pickup or ship your items directly to them with a free, prepaid label (read more about how consignment works). They will take care of photographing and listing your shoes and send you a check once they’re sold.
Vestiaire Collective (us.vestiairecollective.com/) – high-end & contemporary women’s shoes
Vestiaire Collective is an online, peer-to-peer, global marketplace for pre-owned luxury and designer fashion. You photograph and list your items. It’s more work on your end but you also get a higher cut (than on The Real Real, for example).
Poshmark (poshmark.com) – all types of shoes
Poshmark is a digital marketplace where people from the United States can buy and sell new or used clothing, shoes and accessories. You photograph and list the items via the Poshmark app.
Facebook Marketplace (facebook.com/marketplace) – all types of shoes
Facebook Marketplace is an online market located directly within Facebook that allows users to discover, buy and sell items with people in their local community. Learn more here.
Beacon’s Closet (beaconscloset.com) – all types of shoes
Beacon’s Closet is a brick-and-mortar vintage store with several locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. They buy (and trade) vintage and modern shoes 7 days a week on a walk-in basis. Find out more here.
Recycle / Reuse
Nike (https://www.nike.com/help/a/recycle-shoes) – only sneakers, any brand
Nike recycles athletic shoes at the end of their life, giving them a new life through Nike Grind. Just drop your used shoes at a participating Nike retail store.
Wearable Collections (wearablecollections.com) – all types of shoes
Wearable Collections is a NYC-based company focused on keeping shoes (and other items) out of landfills while generating funds for charities. Drop off your shoes at your local NYC greenmarket or request a pick up (minimums of bags apply, varies depending on borough).
