If you’re not used to folding your clothes (properly), let alone folding them the konmari-way, this post is for you. Look, I get it, folding your clothes may seem daunting at first. But neatly folding them has a meaning to it and serves several purposes. Read on to find out why you should konmari-fold your clothes.
1) Maximize Space
If you konmari-fold all your clothes that can be folded (of course, not every item can be folded), you take advantage of your space much more effectively than if you were to hang up everything. Space in a drawer can be best utilized if your clothes are folded tightly in neat little packages that stand upright.
2) Notice
The act of folding requires you to look at and feel your garment with your hands. Thus, you notice much more easily if the item in question has a stain or a loose thread. It becomes easier for you to take care of your items as it’s woven into your daily routine. You also would notice if an item doesn’t spark joy any longer and if perhaps it’s time to pass it on. Again, the reason being that you’re taking time to notice the item while you’re folding it.
3) Appreciation
By folding your things nicely, you pour energy and love into them. You’re literally taking care of them. You show them the appreciation they deserve for protecting your body as you go about your day. Your clothes take part in supporting you in living the best life you can. And for that, they deserve some attention and appreciation, don’t you think?
4) Save Time
I know, some of you might be thinking that taking the time to fold your clothes takes up soooo much time. But trust me, it will SAVE you TIME overall. Because you will know exactly where everything is, what you have and will spend no time anymore looking for things and rummaging through your drawers. (Did you know that the average American wastes close to 1 hour every day looking for things he or she is unable to find?) Also, you will get faster with folding over time.
I’ve had many clients who thought they wouldn’t enjoy folding their clothes but in the end, they all ended up loving it because of its meditating effect and (of course) the pretty & functional end result.
Are you applying the KonMari Method and its folding method yet? How much on a scale of 1 to 10 do you enjoy it and its outcomes?
