Do you wish you were more productive? What’s the first thing you’re doing when you wake up? What’s the second thing you’re doing? And what’s the third?
If you’re like most people, it probably involves turning on your phone (if it was turned off at all!) and checking your emails, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or any other social media app of your choice. Or it might be turning on the TV, reading something or listening to a podcast.
The Vicious Cycle
You’re pretty used to consuming information at all times. Whether it’s watching or reading the news, checking our various social media feeds or listening to podcasts. You respond to others demanding our attention by responding to emails, text messages or comments on (again) our social media apps. It can get pretty overwhelming REAL FAST!
And next thing you know, you’re spending your entire day REACTING and/or CONSUMING. But when do you find the time to CREATE and PRODUCE? No wonder, you don’t get anything done! Would you say that it’s pretty challenging to find the time for your actual work/the things you really want to get done? *I feel like I can hear a resounding ‘yes’*
How To Get Out Of It
Ok, so let’s back up. What if you changed one thing in your daily routine that helps you be more productive. Instantly. And every single day.
Here it is: The reason why you get nothing done is that you start your day consuming and reacting. Once you started it’s hard to stop and your whole day is over (I’m exaggerating but you get what I mean). So I suggest this: Create before you consume. Boom. You will instantly up your productivity – promise!
So what this means is this: before you turn on your phone, the TV or check your emails, spend 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 90 minutes on that one project that you’re currently working on. Set your timer and put your head down. After that, you’re free to open yourself up to the demands of the day. That’s ALL I’m asking of you!
If you want to make headway, you need this uninterrupted time every day. And it’s best to do this before you consume anything else because your brain is free and not thinking about the needs of the outer world. Demand that time for yourself and your (creative) project and you’ll be astounded at how much headway you are going to make.
Give It A Try!
Are you going to give it a try? I suggest you try it at least for 7 days in a row so that it becomes a habit. ALSO: share it on your Instagram (in a post or IG stories) and tag me @lisatselebidis – I’ll repost and hold you accountable for the next 7 days!
