Do you hold one or more of the following misconceptions when it comes to adopting a tidy and organized lifestyle? Let’s clear them up! Here are 3 common misconceptions about getting organized:
1) You Need To Spend $$$ On Storage Products.
→ No, absolutely not. In the KonMari Method (the tidying method I’m using with my clients), we use any and all organizational products you already have in your home. Since it’s a whole home tidying approach and we’re tidying according to categories (not by area), final storage places are often assigned at the very end. So it doesn’t really make sense to buy any storage products upfront if you haven’t even finished decluttering and things don’t have their designated home yet. In fact, we often end up not needing to buy any additional storage products! If you want to upgrade in the end, you of course can. But spending any money upfront on products is not needed.
2) You Need To “Spring Clean” At Least Once A Year.
→ No, please, no! If you tidy according to the KonMari Method, you only have to do one “tidying festival” in your entire lifetime. Yes, that’s right! Systems and maintenance strategies are considered when following the method and then the only thing you have to do is follow these strategies and you’ll maintain your tidy lifestyle easily. Without having to do a big clean out every so often. It’s really that simple. Do it once (but the right way) and you’ll never have to do it again.
3) You Need To Become A Minimalist.
→ No, you don’t. Being organized doesn’t equal minimalism. Even if you enjoy a more maximalist lifestyle and having more stuff, you can still ensure that you only keep things around that you deem useful and/or beautiful. That’s the first premise. The second one is organizing them in a way that makes sense. If you do that, you can achieve organized living. Whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist.
Did you hold any of the above misconceptions? If so, which one? Let me know in the comments below!
