In the last couple of months I’ve been re-decorating our apartment. All in all, I’m trying to achieve a cleaner, more streamlined look with a limited, muted color palette (or more like “non”-color palette) of mostly black, off-white, some white and some wooden furniture pieces. It’s mostly a slow work in progress. The main reason for that is that I need to sell some furniture pieces before I can replace them with some new (but fewer) pieces. But apart from these bigger projects, there’s other areas I’m working on that only require a short amount of time but just the right idea.
If you have a few binders in your (home) office, chances are they look a little bit mis-matched. The labels you use might be from different brands. Some might be short labels and some might be longer. Inscriptions are in disharmony or completely lacking. I used to always write on my binder labels with a pencil in case I needed to write something different on it. And because I’m cheap I didn’t want to have to buy new labels only because I had imprinted them with a permanent marker. On top of that, these choices don’t please a minimalist’s eye.
I’ve long thought about what to do with the binders in our office. We don’t have many, but still a few so that I thought it would look nice if they all looked the same. I thought about buying labels on Etsy but the only ones I could find that were black and white had flowers on them. That’s not quite my style so I gave up on the idea to buy editable labels with “art” on them.
But I found a solution and thought I’d share in case any of you deal with similar “problems.” You only need to have/buy the following:
- Solid white (or any other color) labels for all your binders
- Re-usable chalk labels
- Chalk marker
Now you just need to remove the old labels from your binders or you can stick the new ones over the old ones if you’re unable to remove them. Then you put the chalk labels on there anywhere you like and now you can write on them with the chalk marker.
And voilà, there you have a neat-looking office with binders that look orderly, nice and pleasing to the eye. Chalk labels are also great for labeling anything else from jars to any kinds of boxes. And the greatest thing is that you can simply wipe them off and inscribe them anew!
